Antique Victorian Garnet Horseshoe Locket Brooch 18ct Gold Gilt

A wonderful antique Victorian Horseshoe brooch from the late 1800s decorated with seven gorgeous almandine garnets which are approx. 1ct each and have a desirable, deep violet hue.

Horseshoes have long been a symbol of good luck and were sometimes hung from houses to bring protection and good fortune to those within. They were also a popular accessory for women who partook in activities such as horse riding and were worn as a symbol of their love for the sport. 

The back of the piece is fitted with a new pin and safety catch to hold it more securely and opens to reveal a hidden locket, complete with a rim and window within to store a cherished photograph or memento.

It’s in excellent condition and modelled in solid metal which has been given a bright 18ct yellow gold finish.
