An exquisite antique Victorian cameo from the mid 1800s showcasing an intricately detailed high relief cameo, expertly hand carved from a large bullmouth shell.

Roman style Cameo’s were highly sought after in the Victorian era and often depicted Goddesses and characters from mythology. This one depicts the Roman deity Cybele who is known as the Great Mother and said to be mother of the Gods, humans, and the natural world. She is seen here riding on the back of a chariot drawn by two great lions and is accompanied by two cherubs flying alongside her and a woman walking in front, holding two cymbals.  

The cameo has been re-set in a new 9ct gold frame which has been fashioned to fit around the shells irregular shape. It’s a true work of art and fitted with a strong pin and safety lock clasp on the back to hold it securely.
