A remarkable antique Arts and Crafts Harlequin brooch from the late 19^th Century decorated with a rainbow of coloured gemstones around the border with two larger citrines and an amethyst in the centre cut in various shapes and sizes.  

The Arts and Crafts movement advocated a revival of traditional handicrafts in the late 19^th century and used romantic, folk decoration with an influx of colour and sparkle to counteract the rather mechanised industrialisation of modern design.

Harlequin jewellery is named after the colourful costumes of the 16th century comedy actors of the same name. It was popular during the Victorian era and is currently enjoying a revival. 

The gallery is crafted in silver and is decorated with floral motifs including large forget me nots. It’s wonderfully unique and in excellent condition.

Stones measure: Citrines 14mm across x 10mm down, Amethyst 6mm across x 12mm down, Outer stones 4mm x 4mm
