Product Details
A classic antique Albert chain made in Chester in 1922. It’s made up of solid gold curb links that graduate in size toward the centre and are each stamped 375/ 9ct and have developed a lovely rosy-gold patina with age.
Albert chains were named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first World War who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.
It's a wonderful antique Albert chain, complete with Chester hallmarks and the maker’s mark “C&F” and is fitted with clasps and a T-Bar, all bearing the maker’s marks of E. Whitehouse & Son who were also based in Chester in the early 1900s and were likely added to the chain over time.
