An outstanding Art Deco cocktail ring from the 1920s made in tribute to the women’s suffrage movement. The large, round face is decorated with two violet amethysts, a central green peridot, four creamy-white cultured pearls and an array of twinkling diamonds nestled in between.
Jewellery displaying the colours green, violet and white were often worn in support of the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) which was at the forefront of the UK suffrage movement in the early 1900s. They adopted these three colours to highlight their key virtues: Violet for Royalty, White for Purity and Green for Hope, and also formed the phrase “Give Women Votes!”
The piece is modelled in solid 18ct white gold with milgrain bordering and a thick band at the back complete with a French owl mark on the outside, indicating it was made in Britain but later imported and assayed in Paris. It’s a remarkable statement piece boasting a colourful assortment of contrasting gems.
