This grand antique Edwardian Albert chain is crafted in solid sterling silver, featuring a robust, chunky curb-link design that leads to a traditional T-bar, dog clips and an engraved shield fob suspended from a drop chain. Each component has been assayed in Birmingham and bears authentic British sterling lion passants. The chain and original clasps are also stamped with the prestigious mark of William Hair Haseler and date to 1917 (WWI era), while the T-bar is an older addition, made by S. Blanckensee & Son in 1881.
Albert chains were both a fashionable and practical gentleman’s accessory in the early 20th century and worn with a pocket watch or fob for quick access. Produced during the Great War in 1917, this chain appears to have belonged to a serving gentleman, with the fob, engraved with laurels for victory, worn proudly as a hopeful and commemorative medal.
Preserved in excellent condition, this heavy Albert chain boasts a bright, authentic patina that only a century of history can create and likely has a wonderful story behind it. A perfect acquisition for the discerning collector that can be worn as a traditional watch chain or as a bold statement choker necklace.
