Details
A glamorous antique Edwardian amethyst lavalier necklace, dating to the early 1900s, adorned with a large purple amethyst and two delicate pear-cut drops, with a matching soft-purple hue. The stones are framed within warm yellow gold, suspended from a wonderful 15ct gold fancy-link chain, featuring pierced paper-clip links interspersed with long navette bars embellished with delicate floral engraving and completed with a secure tube clasp at the end.
Amethyst’s royal purple-violet colour has been cherished by kings and nobility throughout history, long believed to offer clarity, protection, and wisdom to its wearer. Legend also connects Saint Valentine to the gem, as he was said to wear an amethyst ring carved with Cupid, making it the birthstone for February and a particularly romantic Valentine’s gift.
Lovingly preserved in excellent condition for over a century, this elegant lavalier necklace beautifully bridges the gap between heavy Victorian design with the lighter, more fluid aesthetic of the Edwardian era. A rare historic treasure, it would make a deeply meaningful Valentine’s or February birthday gift for anyone who admires exquisite antique craftsmanship and the charming sentiment of the past.
