Details
A sweet antique butterfly brooch from the early 20th Century fashioned in sterling silver with shimmering guilloche enamel artistry across the front. The body is highlighted in lime green and contrasted with icy blue wings displaying lifelike detailing and four red polka dots.
Guilloche enamel dates to the 17th century. The process involves metal carefully worked by a lathe, or “Rose Machine” into a decorative pattern and overlaid with a colourful enamel to create a striking and highly detailed work of art.
It’s remained in excellent condition and is signed with the maker’s initials and kite mark of John Aitkin and Son of Birmingham, who were known for their exquisite enamel pieces.
