Details
A fabulous antique Edwardian lavaliere necklace made in tribute to the women’s suffrage movement. The open-work drop pendant consists of elegant, curved motifs, accented by bright white seed pearls, a pink quartz centre and teardrop green peridot dropper. It’s fashioned in sunny 15ct yellow gold and suspended from two chains to a second, smaller gallery above, also adorned with pearls and a second peridot dropper.
Jewellery displaying green, violet, and white was commonly worn to support the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU), a leading force in the UK suffrage movement in the early 1900s. The colours symbolised their core virtues: violet for loyalty, white for purity, and green for hope, and sometimes represented the acronym “Give Women Votes!”
Dating to the early 20th century, this rare and beautiful Suffragette lavaliere necklace remains in remarkable condition and stands as a touching tribute to such an important historic movement. The pendant is suspended from a fine 15ct gold chain and fastens securely with a tube-box clasp.
