A magnificent antique Edwardian carved half hoop ring made during the height of the women’s suffrage movement in the early 20th Century. The front is adorned with two green peridots (approx. 0.80ct each), an amethyst (approx. 1ct) and eight white diamonds twinkling in between.
Jewellery displaying the colours green, violet and white were often worn in support of the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) which was at the forefront of the UK suffrage movement in the early 1900s. They adopted these three colours to highlight their key virtues: Violet for Royalty, White for Purity and Green for Hope, and also formed the phrase “Give Women Votes!”
The gallery is all solid 18ct gold with decorative, scrolling artistry across the sides and shoulders, creating a beautiful bed for the stones to rest on.
Suffragette pieces are extremely sought after and becoming an increasingly rare find. This one is a particularly fine example, boasting a quality array of gemstones that look magnificent spread over the finger.
