This wonderful antique Edwardian shamrock brooch is fully hallmarked and dated Chester 1910.
Shamrocks were a popular motif in the Edwardian era and have long been a symbol of the Holy Trinity, one leaf for the Father, one for the Son and one for the Holy Spirit.
The lovely shamrock is set with green Peridots, violet/ red Almandine Garnet’s and a central white Pearl.
Suffragettes liked to be depicted as feminine, their jewellery popularly consisted of Violet, Green and White colours which were chosen to counter the stereotypes put forward by opponents that they were mannish or shrieking! Green is for Give, white is for Women and violet is for Votes!
All set in Yellow Gold and stamped -375- for 9ct.
A collectable Edwardian piece steeped in history.
