This grand antique Edwardian Albert chain is masterfully crafted in sterling silver and freshly gilded in radiant 18ct yellow gold. Measuring 15 inches, this versatile piece features substantial “Stars & Bars” links interspersed with faceted cable links, with finely engraved stars decorating the sides. The chain culminates in a classic T-bar and a pair of dog-clips, each stamped “S.S.” for sterling silver.
Suspended from an ornate decorative drop is a substantial hand-engraved vesta case, fully hallmarked in Birmingham in 1908. Richly embellished with scrolling foliate engraving and delicate floral motifs, it retains its original hinged lid and match striker to the base, with the previous owner’s monogram, “R.W.”, engraved at the centre. Once used to carry matches for lighting cigars beneath the glow of gaslit streetlamps, it offers a charming glimpse into an era of gentlemanly ritual, sophistication and quiet elegance.
This extraordinary piece remains in excellent condition to this day and makes a striking statement. Traditionally worn as a pocket-watch chain, it can equally be reinvented as a dramatic choker necklace, bringing a distinctive sense of history and Edwardian grandeur to contemporary style.
