Product Details
A grand antique Georgian cameo ring from the early 19th Century, built around a hand-carved hardstone cameo, depicting Cupid petting a playful puppy. The high-relief cameo is bezel set in an 18ct gold frame, with scrolled shoulders leading into and ornately engraved band at the back.
Cameo jewellery was highly sought after in the 18th and 19th Century, during the “Grand Tour” days when tourists developed a fascination with destinations such as Rome. Cupid, in classical mythology is the God of love and desire and has been the subject of many paintings, sculptures, and jewellery pieces throughout history. He is often depicted as a winged child and is sometimes seen cradling dogs, symbolising love, friendship, and loyalty.
This is a magnificent and rare Georgian cameo ring, with a truly exquisite work of art on show, that has remained intact and in excellent condition across the centuries.
