Details
A sweet, little antique Georgian garnet spinel brooch crafted in 18ct yellow gold. At its heart beats a cushion cut garnet with a luxurious deep-red hue, contrasted against six round spinel with a bright golden-orange radiance. The stones are collet set in a closed-back gallery with a small, concealed locket at the back of the pin, topped with a domed glass window.
During the 19th Century, garnet symbolised deep love, and devotion, making it a popular gemstone exchanged between sweethearts. Yellow spinel, valued for its bright golden hue, represented happiness and prosperity and when paired together they convey a heartfelt message of enduring love and good fortune.
Dating to the early 19th Century, this highly collectable Georgian gemstone brooch would make the perfect antique gift for a loved one, with its fiery blend of contrasting gems and secret locket at the back, that would have traditionally held a lock of hair, but could also hold a small photograph, so that it remains forever close to your heart.
