Details
A precious Antique Mourning ring from the Georgian era modelled in 18ct Yellow Gold with a large marquise face set with a Rock Crystal window haloed by seed Pearls.
Behind the window the hair of a beloved young girl has been preserved and on the back remains the message: “J.D. Died - 5th May 1788 – aged three years”.
Mourning jewellery in the 18th and 19th Century sometimes contained a lock of hair as a souvenir to remember a loved one so that a piece of them was always kept close to the wearer.
The piece was clearly very dear to the original owner and has been well preserved throughout the centuries.
