This antique Sterling Silver Scottish Celtic pendant is beautiful, Circa 1900.
The pendant is set with a large, deep red Paste Stone in the centre.
Paste is hand-cut glass that has been polished with metal powder until it shimmers like a gemstone. They are also a transparent flint glass that stimulates the fire and brilliance of gemstones, because they have a relatively high indices of refraction and a strong dispersion.
Scottish jewellery was made popular by Queen Victoria as it became a souvenir of her frequent trips to Scotland and her Scottish Castle Balmoral from the mid 1800s.
