This fabulous antique Victorian 9ct Yellow Gold Suffragette brooch is Circa 1900.
Suffragettes liked to be depicted as feminine, their jewellery popularly consisted of Violet Green and White colours which were chosen to counter the stereotypes put forward by opponents that they were mannish or shrieking! Green is for Give, white is for Women and violet is for Votes.
The wonderful little brooch is adorned with a large Violet Amethyst, a rich green Peridot and two sparkling Diamonds.
Amethyst has been highly esteemed throughout the ages for its stunning beauty and legendary powers to stimulate and soothe the mind and emotions.
The Peridot is a stone of lightness and beauty and was believed to be a stone of springtime by ancients who considered it a gift from Mother Nature.
Diamond is the hardest mineral on Earth and this combined with its exceptional lustre and brilliant fire has made it the most highly prized of all gems.
