Crafted in solid 9ct gold, this exquisite antique Victorian curb link Albert chain features its original claw clasps, a classic T-bar, and an extension of chain at the end fitted with a ring clasp—traditionally used to hold a fob or medallion, but equally suitable for a pendant or other keepsake. Over time, each link has developed a warm, rosy-gold patina, enhancing its charm and character. Each component is stamped “375 / 9ct”, with hallmarks and the maker’s mark along the bar, indicating it was made in Birmingham by Charles Daniel Broughton in the late 19th Century.
Albert chains were both a fashionable and practical accessory for a gentleman in the 20th Century, often adorned with a pocket watch or fob and secured to the buttonhole of a waistcoat for quick access. Today they’re also worn as versatile and stylish necklaces; a custom started by the wives of soldiers during WW1 who wore the chains as a keepsake.
This luxurious Victorian Albert chain is perfect for layering with other gold chains or worn alone as a statement piece or watch chain. It’s a particularly fine example, with a substantial weight and bright golden bloom.
