A grand antique Edwardian Albert chain, made up of paperclip and knot links, all fashioned in a muted 9ct yellow gold which has developed a lovely patina over time. It’s complete with the traditional double claw clasp, a T-bar at the bottom and an additional length of chain at the end that would usually hold a pendant or medallion. 

Albert chains were named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first World War who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely. 

This is a wonderful antique Albert chain from the late 19th Century and would look wonderful worn as a traditional Albert or as a stylish necklace.
