Details
This exquisite antique Victorian cherub pendant is built around a hand-painted portrait of a playful cherub, playing with a pink hoop. It’s delicately painted in a soft palette of colours by a skilled artist and is encased in a sunny 18ct yellow gold frame, with polished gold pommels around the outside and a lustrous mother-of-pearl on the reverse.
Cherubs symbolise innocence, love, and divine protection, whereas Mother of pearl, with its soft, luminous glow, represents femininity, nurturing, and maternal care. Together, they evoke themes of eternal love and protection, likely between a mother and her child. The hoop may also represent wholeness and the continuity of life, reflecting the Victorians love of sentiment and symbolism.
Presented in its original antique box, with a green leatherette exterior and indigo velvet/ silk interior, this pendant is both highly collectable and in excellent condition. A true testament to the enduring artistry of the 19th century and the perfect gift for a mother.
