A pretty antique Victorian beetle brooch from the late 19th Century consisting of a golden oval cut citrine abdomen (approx. 6ct) and a pale violet amethyst head (approx. 1ct).
During the late 19th Century many were left longing to reconnect with the beauty of the natural world after the vast urbanisation of Great Britain. This brought about an abundance of romanticised Insect and butterfly pieces, decorated with colourful gemstones to highlight the beauty and value of nature.
The piece is crafted in 9ct gold with secure claw settings for each stone and a silver pin at the back. It’s a fabulous little brooch showcasing a lovely combination of natural gems.
