Product Details
A colourful antique Victorian dragonfly brooch decorated with an array of coloured gemstones across the front, including blue sapphires, pink rubies and twinkling rose cut diamonds with a row of natural pearls running down the length of the body and tail.
Insect jewellery became increasingly popular in the late 19th Century as many were left longing to reconnect with the beauty of the natural world after the Industrial Revolution and the vast urbanisation of Great Britain. This brought about an abundance of romanticised Insect and butterfly pieces, decorated with colourful gemstones to counteract the more mechanised, industrialisation of modern design.
It’s in excellent condition and is fashioned in silver and 15ct gold with a safety chain and a detachable pin that can be unscrewed at the back.
