Product Details
A magnificent antique Victorian collar consisting of large, scalloped links engraved with rose gold flowers and green gold ivy leaves. It’s fashioned in sterling silver and bestowed with a large, ornate locket featuring a rose gold flower in the centre bordered by silver beadings, golden leaves and forget me nots.
Forget me nots and Ivy were a popular combination in the Victorian era, both symbolising eternal love and popularly featured on lockets containing images of loved ones as it signified that they will never be forgotten and remain forever close to the wearer’s heart.
The locket hangs from a bolt ring clasp with a second smaller clasp on the collar so that a link can be detached to create a small drop for the locket. It’s complete with the engraved initials E.B. on the back and contains rims inside along with original photographs of two finely dressed Victorian gentleman, possibly a son and his father that have accompanied the piece over the centuries.
It was clearly a beloved piece and has been kept in excellent condition. It’s complete with the maker’s mark “W&Co” on the back along with Birmingham hallmarks that date the piece precisely to 1881.
We recommend you insure for £2,300. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
