This fabulous large Antique Victorian 15ct Gold hand carved Cameo brooch is Circa 1860.
Set with lovely detail, this fabulous Cameo depicts the Greek mythological scene night and day in which Nyx - Goddess of night draws her dark veil across the sky, bringing night to earth beside her daughter Hemera- Goddess of Day who will bring light again come the dawn.
Here the two Greek Goddess’s can be seen in profile with a crescent moon and stars at the top and a fabulous Eagle and Sun at the bottom.
The Cameo is hand carved from a Bullmouth Shell boasting a lovely high relief workmanship which is very well executed.
The fabulous Bullmouth Shell has been popular for many years as a base for Cameo carvings for it’s beautiful natural patterning which takes expert skill to carve.
All set in a 15ct Yellow Gold frame which is fitted with a double pin and safety catch.
Purchased in London and steeped in English history. The brooch is highly collectable, a beautiful rare find that looks fabulous when worn.
