A fabulous long antique French sautoir chain set with lovely fancy panels and floral links set in 18ct Yellow Gold on Silver.
A Sautoir necklace is a French term for a long chain that runs down to the waist. They were popular in the 1900s and were often worn looped multiple times around the neck to create a long cascading piece.
The chain is complete with a ring clasp at the end which may have been used to attach a pocket watch or a cylinder of fur known as a Muff to keep the wearers hands warm in winter.
It is an exceptional piece and can be worn as one long chain or wrapped 2 or even 3 times around the neck.
