An exquisite antique mid-Victorian brooch exhibiting a finely detailed micro mosaic centrepiece featuring a line of colourful flowers, including forget me nots which represent everlasting love and remembrance.
Roman style Micro Mosaic's are made up of unusually small pieces of glass (tesserae), or in later Italian pieces an enamel-like material, to make small figurative images which were sought after in the 19th century during the “Grand Tour” days, when tourists developed a fascination with destinations such as Rome.
The mosaic is inlaid in a rectangular silver frame with rope edge border and looks to have been gilded previously but this has mostly faded over time. It’s a fabulous antique treasure and displays a wonderful work of art that is in pristine condition.
