A beautiful antique Victorian mourning heart locket featuring high relief forget me nots on the front, dotted with turquoise petals. On the reverse, a locket can be found displaying plaited brown hair preserved behind a glass window.
Mourning jewellery was worn in remembrance of a deceased loved one and sometimes contained a lock of their hair so that a piece of them was always kept close to the wearer. Forget me nots were also a common motif and symbolised love and remembrance.
The gallery is all 18ct gold with lovely, textured detailing across the heart, leaves and loop. It’s been beautifully preserved and was clearly very dear to its original owner.
