This fabulous antique Sterling Silver Victorian Paste Insect brooch is Circa 1900.
Bug or insect jewellery is highly collectable and was a symbol of good luck to the wearer during the Victorian Eras.
The beautiful brooch is adorned with sparkling white Paste Stones and crowned with a larger Pink Paste on the insects abdomen.
Paste is a heavy, very transparent flint glass that simulates the fire and brilliance of gemstones. They sparkle just like Diamonds, captivating the allure of natures beauty.
Rich red Cabochon Rubies are set in the insects eyes.
The Ruby is considered to be the most powerful gem of the universe, given as a gift, the ruby is a symbol of friendship and love. Ruby is also the symbol of vitality and loyalty.
All set in Sterling Silver and hallmarked on the reverse of the brooch.
Purchased in London and steeped in English history.
