Details
A stunning antique Victorian crescent moon brooch dating to the late 19th Century beautifully crafted in rich 15ct yellow gold and set with 11 alternating cushion-cut blue sapphires (approx. 2.7ct total) and 22 hand-cut old mine diamonds (approx. 1ct total) that graduate elegantly from each tip. The sapphires have a deep royal-blue hue and contrast beautifully with the bright SI 1 clarity – H colour diamonds, together evoking a dark, celestial sky glittering with twinkling stars.
Celestial motifs were among the most romantic and meaningful jewellery designs of the Victorian era. The crescent moon, particularly the waxing moon, symbolised new beginnings, hope and enduring love, making pieces such as these popular gifts between sweethearts or to commemorate engagements and important life milestones. The sapphires represent faithfulness, while the diamonds symbolise everlasting love.
Expertly crafted, this highly collectable sapphire and diamond brooch has remained in remarkable condition for well over a century and features beautiful, pierced gallery work to the sides and a secure double pin and safety lock clasp at the back, ensuring it can be worn with confidence. Whether added to a fine antique jewellery collection or gifted to a loved one, it is a timeless treasure ready for the beginning of its next chapter.
