A stunning antique Victorian shamrock brooch, featuring three heart-shaped leaves, set with sparkling old mine cut diamonds around the edge and down the stem, with a trio of round blue sapphires, claw set in the centre (approx. 0.50ct each).
The diamonds are all bright and clean, with superb SI1/2 clarity – H colour. The largest weighs approx. 0.40ct in the centre, with a grand total of approx. 3ct across the piece.
Shamrocks have long been associated with luck and good fortune and each leaf is said to represent faith, hope and love. They were also a symbol of Ireland and Saint Patrick, who used the image to illustrate the Holy Trinity, one leaf for the Father, one for the Son and one for the Holy Spirit.
This fabulous shamrock brooch dates to the late 19th Century and is modelled in sterling silver and 18ct gold, with pierced sides and a pin and locking catch on the reverse to hold it secure. It's a striking piece with a dazzling collection of natural diamonds and sapphires on show.
We recommend you insure for £4,000. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
