Dating to the mid-19th Century, this exquisite antique Victorian Scottish agate chain comprises of a robust silver cable-link chain adorned with four shiny spheres and five polished barrel agates that are faceted and display distinct natural patterning and earthy hues.
Agate is a stone of the Earth, with many distinct varieties, each displaying their own unique banded patterns and earthy tones that are naturally formed, earning them the nickname “Earth rainbow’" Symbolising strength, loyalty, and protection, it carries a proud heritage in Scottish Highland jewellery and was also adored by Queen Victoria, who helped popularise it throughout Great Britain in the 19th Century.
Measuring 19.5 inches, this exquisite Victorian agate chain is held secure by a sturdy tube clasp at the end. It has remained in excellent condition over the centuries and is a bold and unique statement piece with historical charm.
