This beautiful antique Scottish Victorian brooch is carved in the likeness of a cello, with four pieces of Scottish Agate set into the top and base of the instrument. The cello’s body has been sculpted in Sterling Silver delicately engraved with flowing patterns leading inwards towards the strings.
The level of detail is a testament to the skill of the Victorian jeweller, with the body, fingerboard, pegs and even the scroll which crowns the cello rendered faithfully.
Each piece of agate is utterly unique, with its own patterning and colours. This tremendous variety earns agate the nickname “The Earth Rainbow”. Although the stones have taken some wear over the years this only adds to the character of the piece; a reminder of its history and age.
This is a beautiful piece, and would make an ideal gift for any music lover.
