Product Details
A remarkable antique Scottish bracelet from the mid-Victorian era featuring an exquisite hand-carved bullmouth shell cameo in the centre, depicting the side profile of a character from Roman mythology, possibly the God Apollo who is intricately detailed, showing every strand of hair and crease in his clothing.
Roman style Cameos were highly sought after in the 19th century during the 'Grand Tour' days when tourists developed a fascination with destinations such as Rome. They often depicted Goddesses and characters from mythology and became a favourite of Queen Victoria also.
The cameo is mounted in a large silver face decorated with beautiful Montrose agates around the border and engraved patterning in between. The band consists of articulated silver panels, inlaid with further red and grey agates, leading to a substantial box clasp at the end.
It’s an exquisite antique find, exhibiting an exceptional cameo and agates which have stood the test of time and remained in excellent condition.
