A wonderful Antique 18ct Yellow Gold gilt serpent brooch made during the mid-Victorian era, Circa 1880.
The piece depicts a snake coiled around a large cabochon cut Glass dome which has the dark surface and inner red flame of a Garnet.
Serpent jewellery became popular in the Victorian era and symbolized a wonderful combination of love, loyalty and friendship with their coiled shape representing an infinite, everlasting bond.
The serpent is coiled beautifully with a rather delightful face and curled tail. It is a wonderful design and has a good solid weight to it.
