A charming antique Victorian turquoise pearl brooch, depicting a large bow with a heart pendant suspended from the bottom, complete with a hidden locket at the back. Both are encrusted with sky-blue turquoise and bright natural seed pearls across the front, with a forget-me-not on the heart, made up of pearl petals and a pink cabochon ruby in the centre.
The Victorians loved romance and bows, hearts, and forget-me-nots, were popular love tokens, together symbolising love, friendship and devotion. This is further emphasised by the complementary use of turquoise, pearls and rubies which are also heavily associated with eternal love and faithfulness.
This exquisite Victorian brooch is crafted skilfully in silver, gilded in 18ct yellow gold and features scrolling, foliate engraving across the ribbon. The round locket is complete with its original rim and window at the back, ready to house a small photograph or lock of hair.
The piece dates to the mid 19th Century and has been loved and cherished across the centuries. It’s the perfect symbol of everlasting love, even more so today given the items age and superb condition, showing anything can stand the test of time.
