This wonderful Edwardian-inspired stag beetle brooch is crafted in silver, with 18ct yellow gold gilt highlights. It’s brought to life by articulated legs, wings, and mandibles that quiver as if alive when worn and is decorated with a striking contrast of vivid pink rubies and sparkling rose-cut diamonds, totalling approx. 2.5 carats each.
Novelty jewellery grew in popularity in the early 20th century and saw fabulous bug-themed pieces, abundantly decorated with colourful gemstones to highlight the beauty and value of nature. Stag beetles have long been symbols of strength, resilience, and transformation with their distinctive shape and long mandibles both recognisable and iconic.
With its exceptional craftsmanship, precious gemstones, and whimsical design, this ruby diamond beetle brooch is a striking conversion piece, held by a pin at the back with a safety-lock clasp and a loop, allowing it to be pinned to a lapel or hung from a chain as a pendant.
