This Georgian Sterling Silver witches heart brooch is spectacular.

Set with a rich Bristol blue coloured glass, encrusted with Paste stones.

The brooch is adorned with Paste stones surrounding a bright blue central heart with a central pretty Paste flower.

With a beautiful sterling silver back gallery too, all original.

Paste is a heavy, very transparent flint glass that stimulates the fire and brilliance of gemstones because it has relatively high indices of refraction and strong dispersion, the Romans in particular were very skilful in the production of coloured glass pastes.

The term witches heart means a heart with a curved point at the end.

Over time the meaning has changed. In the 18th century they were viewed as tokens of love and affection and brought with it the implication that the giver had become bewitched to fall in love with the recipient. In earlier times, they were often used as protective amulets, to guard the wearer from evil.

This brooch is perfect for Valentines or that special occasion. It looks lovely when worn!
