An exquisite Victorian inspired brooch hand carved from French Jet. The high relief carving depicts the side profile of an elegant lady with Ivy leaves woven into her long hair. It displays impeccable detailing and is clearly the work of a true master of the craft.
Jet became fashionable in the mid 19th Century and was brought to the attention of the world by Queen Victoria who wore it as part of her mourning attire. Roman style Cameos were also highly sought after during this time and often depicted Goddesses and characters from mythology.
It’s a lovely tribute to Victorian design and fitted with a secure pin and locking clasp on the back.
