This sweet vintage family Locket is crafted in warm 9ct yellow gold and is double-sided with a clever, rotating interior mechanism, allowing you to store four cherished photographs of your loved ones. The exterior is smooth and tactile, featuring crisp engraving in a vertical, striped pattern on both sides, with an engraved monogram (MV) on the front.
Two loving inscriptions within the locket reveal that it was commissioned in tribute to a beloved father and husband by the name of Mac Vennis, who lived between 1896–1958. It was gifted by his son, Philip after his death, to his mother to mark her first New Year without her husband.
The family chose to immortalise him as a hero, engraving the locket with meaningful quotes from Shakespeare’s famous work “Antony and Cleopatra”. Along the outer rim runs the moving line, “For his bounty, there was no winter in it,” a poetic tribute to a man of boundless generosity. Inside, a hidden inscription reads, “He was past the size of dreaming,” suggesting a man so extraordinary that reality itself fell short of his greatness. Together, these words paint a portrait of a husband remembered as larger than life, his wife’s own “Mark Antony”, whose memory she carried, quite literally, close to her heart.
This beautifully preserved 9ct gold mourning locket is a tender relic of love and remembrance from the mid-20th century and is ready to continue its long, loving family legacy, whilst holding your own cherished family photos close to the heart.
