Vintage Albert Chain Sterling Silver 18ct Gold Gilt Circa 1970

A grand vintage Albert chain from the late 20^th century made up of solid sterling silver curb links which have been gilded in a bright 18ct yellow gold.

Albert chains were named after Prince Albert and were used by wealthy Victorian gentlemen to secure a pocket watch by attaching it via the T-bar to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today though, they have taken on a new function and commonly worn as a women’s statement necklace.   

It’s a good solid chain and weighs 72 grams in total. It’s fitted with two claw clasps at the end and a T-bar at the bottom which is complete with the maker’s initials and Sheffield hallmarks.
