A charming vintage Dachshund novelty brooch crafted in solid 18ct yellow gold with a lovely smoothness and patina that has developed with age. The whimsical design features oversized floppy ears, an elongated body and pointed nose, accented with ruby eyes, a cabochon ruby nose and a sparkling diamond set into a bow on its tail.
The piece was likely made in Italy during the mid-20th century, when animal novelty jewellery was highly fashionable, inspired by the iconic “La Boutique” collection from Van Cleef & Arpels, which popularised playful, characterful animal pieces with distinct, cartoon-like personalities.
The reverse is fitted with a secure pin and locking catch and is hollowed in the traditional Italian fashion to reduce weight, allowing it to sit comfortably on a lapel or blouse without dipping. A highly collectable novelty brooch, perfect for vintage jewellery collectors, Dachshund enthusiasts and dog lovers alike.
