Details
This fabulous vintage snake bangle was made in Chester by the celebrated Cropp & Farr Ltd in 1958 and features full hallmarks at the back of the serpent’s head. It is ingeniously constructed around a strong steel spring, encased in an expandable 9ct yellow gold gaspipe case.
Snake jewellery experienced a revival during the 20th century, fuelled by Europe’s fascination with ancient Egypt following celebrated discoveries such as the tomb of Tutankhamun. In Egyptian culture, the serpent symbolised royalty, power, and protection, while in later jewellery traditions its coiled form came to represent eternal love and devotion. This romantic symbolism is beautifully echoed here through the use of passionate pink ruby eyes and scrollwork engraving in-between, which subtly forms a heart motif.
This ingeniously crafted and highly collectable 1950s snake bangle is in excellent condition. It’s spring mechanism and smooth gold exterior allow it to comfortably wrap around the wrist or higher on the upper arm, evoking the opulent style of Cleopatra herself.
