Details
A classic vintage snake bangle, crafted in Chester by the legendary jewellers Smith & Pepper in 1958. Built around a durable steel spring, the bangle is elegantly cased in smooth, flexible 9ct yellow gold, allowing it to expand comfortably around the wrist. At either end, a serpent’s head and tail are delicately engraved, with a scrolling heart motif on the head, finished with piercing pink ruby eyes.
Egyptian-inspired snake jewellery enjoyed a revival in the 20th century, fuelled by discoveries such as Tutankhamun’s tomb, which sparked fascination across Europe. Coiled snakes were often worn as symbols of royalty and protection in ancient Egypt but in modern times, their coiled shape is also heavily associated with eternal love and devotion.
In excellent condition and fully hallmarked on the reverse of the head, this beautifully made vintage snake bangle is a striking and collectable example of mid-century artistry. Wear it coiled around the wrist, or higher on the upper arm for a dramatic, Cleopatra-inspired look.
