Details
A vibrant vintage Edwardian Revival pendant in 9ct yellow gold, designed as an elegant tribute to the women’s Suffragette movement. The striking openwork design centres on a deep violet amethyst, framed by a double halo of further amethysts, four bright white repurposed old European-cut diamonds from the period (approx. 0.20ct each), and a radiant square cushion-cut peridot drop at the end.
Its distinctive palette of green, violet, and white reflects the colours long associated with the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU), one of the leading organisations in the UK suffrage movement in the early 1900s. Each colour carried symbolic meaning: violet for loyalty and dignity, white for purity, and green for hope – or Green (Give), White (Women), Violet (Votes).
Hallmarks on the reverse show the pendant was made in London in 1975 - the year designated by the United Nations as International Women’s Year. This was a period that renewed public attention on women’s political history, equality, and the pioneering achievements of the Suffragettes, as second-wave feminism gained momentum worldwide following landmark advances in women’s rights, including the implementation of equal pay legislation.
Whether chosen as a meaningful gift or cherished as a personal keepsake, this beautiful vintage pendant stands as a timeless symbol of strength, hope, and female empowerment.
