Product Details
A grand antique Edwardian Albert chain hallmarked Birmingham, 1911. Each curb link is modelled in solid sterling silver and bears a “sterling” lion passant. It’s been gilded in a bright 18ct yellow gold and fitted with a classic claw clasp and T-Bar which is all original and hallmarked.
Albert chains were popularised and named after Queen Victoria’s consort, Prince Albert in the 19th Century and were traditionally used by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldier’s during the first world war who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.
The chain also includes an awarded medallion which is suspended from an extension of chain at the bottom. It’s hallmarked Birmingham, 1932 and has been engraved on the back with the message: “F.F.C.C. Referee – 1934 – J.H. Laidman”.
It’s a durable chain with a good weight to it and can be worn as a traditional albert or as a fabulous statement necklace.
