Antique Edwardian Paste Pearl Suffragette Brooch Silver Gilt

A fabulous antique Art Nouveau brooch from the early 1900s decorated with pink and green paste stones, white cultured pearls and flower and leaf motifs layered in polka-dot white or black enamel.

The combination of gemstone colours were often used together to show support for the women’s Suffrage movement in the early 20^th Century and symbolised; Royalty, Purity and Hope, or the phrase “Give Women Votes”.  

The large gallery has an elaborate, open-work design, with scrolled metalwork and milgrain edging. It’s fashioned in silver with a gold gilt back and finished with three droppers at the bottom consisting of a large faux pearl in the centre with two black thorns dangling on each side also covered in polka-dot enamel.

It’s a wonderful design, displaying exquisite workmanship and a colourful assortment of coloured pastes.
