Details
A beautiful and deeply symbolic antique Edwardian heart pendant-brooch, dating to the early 1900s, preserved in excellent condition. At its centre rests a lustrous pearl flower cluster, crowned above by a delicate pearl-set bow. It’s fashioned in warm 18ct yellow gold and adorned with a glossy layer of royal blue guilloché enamel, skilfully applied and framed by a refined white enamel border.
While the heart is a common symbol of love today, the Edwardians took it very seriously, with a single heart token like this literally signifying the giving of one's heart to another. The royal blue enamel symbolises deep fidelity, often referred to as “true blue”, while the surrounding white border conveys purity and eternity. At its centre, the delicate pearl flower represents blossoming affection, while the stylised gold bow above signifies the enduring bond and union between two souls.
This enchanting piece was clearly treasured as a romantic keepsake, exchanged between lovers and passed down through generations. It survives today in exceptional condition, with its enamel beautifully intact. Accompanying the piece is a matching 18ct gold wheat chain, allowing it to be worn and admired once again as either a necklace or a brooch, ready to be gifted to someone special and continue its romantic legacy.
