Details
This magnificent antique Edwardian peridot and diamond lavaliere necklace is crafted in warm 18ct yellow gold, dating to the twilight of the La Belle Époque. Delicate openwork links with scrolling motifs lead to a striking floral sunburst pendant at the bottom. It’s set with an estimated 42 carats of cushion and oval-cut peridots, radiating a vivid apple-green glow once famously adored by King Edward VII. Accented with approx. 0.95 carats of brilliant-cut diamonds in fine platinum claws, the interplay of green, white, and gold evokes a sunlit spring meadow, symbolising vitality, joy, and renewal.
More than a century later, this regal statement piece remains in pristine condition and is accompanied by a green leatherette box with a cream silk and velvet interior, originating from Nice, France. While not original to the necklace, it suggests the piece may have been made or spent time along the sunny French Riviera and provides a secure place for it to be stored.
Measuring 16 inches, this spectacular necklace makes a striking antique statement piece as it rests gracefully at the base of the neck. Its luminous peridots glow beautifully whether under midday sun or at a candlelit evening, dazzling as “Evening Emeralds” as they have done for over a century.
