Details
A wonderful antique Victorian pheasant brooch, exquisitely crafted in solid 18ct gold and richly detailed with finely engraved feather texturing across the front. The elegant bird is adorned with seventeen sparkling old mine-cut diamonds that graduate gracefully from the head to the tip of its sweeping tail feathers. They display SI1–SI2 clarity and H/I colour, ranging from approx. 0.06 - 0.20ct and totalling around 2 carats.
Adding further charm and character, the pheasant’s head is set with a vivid emerald eye, accented by a collar of matching emerald-green paste stones, while a double diamond dropper suspended from its beak provides a touch of movement and sparkle.
During the late Victorian period, novelty jewellery became highly fashionable among the British upper classes, particularly those with a fondness for country pursuits. Finely crafted brooches depicting foxes, hunting dogs, insects, and game birds were worn as both decorative accessories and symbols of an appreciation for rural life and country estate culture.
A delightful and increasingly collectable antique treasure, this characterful brooch beautifully captures the craftsmanship and whimsy of the Victorian era. Complete with a secure pin and safety chain for added peace of mind when worn, it remains as charming and wearable today as when it was first created.
