A wonderful antique Edwardian pin depicting the rod of Asclepius. It consists of a long staff encircled by a coiling snake and is topped with a pink ceramic orb dotted with twinkling pastes. It’s crafted in steel and has been gilded in yellow gold.
Asclepius was the Greek God of healing and medicine and was represented as a serpent coiling around a staff due to ancient healing ceremonies that often involved snakes. The symbol is still seen today and represents good health and long life.
It’s in excellent condition and would make a wonderful gift.
